CronotempVs Collectors presents the Vulcain Nautical “Posidonia”, a special edition diving watch that pays tribute to the underwater plant responsible for maintaining the biodiversity of the Mediterranean Sea

An alarm diver

In the mid-20th century, the invention of the regulator revolutionized diving by balancing the pressure between the diver’s lungs and their compressed air reserves. This breakthrough fostered the development of diving as a sport and led to the creation of specialized instruments. In 1961, Vulcain introduced one of the first diving watches equipped with a movement featuring an alarm that was audible underwater. This was the Nautical model, fitted with the famous Cricket movement. To ensure the diver could hear the alarm signaling it was time to ascend, Vulcain developed a triple caseback, which acted as a resonance chamber.

In 2011, Vulcain reissued this model, preserving the original’s aesthetic and technical reliability, solidifying its status as one of Vulcain’s most iconic watches.

This summer, CronotempVs Collectors reimagines the Vulcain Nautical with a striking green dial in tribute to Posidonia, a seagrass found only in the Mediterranean Sea. Posidonia meadows form natural reefs that provide shelter for marine flora and fauna, supporting nearly 400 plant species and 1,000 animal species. One of the plant’s remarkable qualities is its ability to capture dissolved carbon from seawater. In fact, Posidonia can store more than twice the carbon of temperate and tropical forests.

Because of its importance, many Mediterranean countries have implemented measures to protect Posidonia meadows. These include marine protected areas, restrictions on anchoring, and public awareness campaigns. The health of Posidonia meadows is a critical indicator of the overall well-being of the Mediterranean marine environment. Their protection is essential for maintaining marine biodiversity, combating climate change, and supporting coastal economies.

Tribute to the mediterranean Posidonia fields

The Vulcain Nautical “Posidonia” by CronotempVs Collectors features a 42mm stainless steel case, housing the manual-wind Cricket Alarm V10 caliber movement, offering a 52-hour power reserve. The movement can be admired through the transparent caseback. The watch includes hour, minute, second functions, along with an alarm and a decompression scale, which is adjusted via the crown at 4 o’clock. A pusher at 2 o’clock allows for setting the alarm.

The dial maintains the design of the Heritage model, with the addition of green tones as a nod to the Posidonia meadows that inspired the watch.

Finally, the Vulcain Nautical “Posidonia” CronotempVs Collectors is presented with a rubber strap and a triple caseback delivered separately that acts as a resonance chamber, which can be swapped depending on the watch’s intended use.
