Linde Werdelin «THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY»

«THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY» – A LAUNCH OF OUR CLASSIC 3 TIMER INSPIRED BY KRISTIAN HAAGEN

Linde Werdelin is proud to announce the launch of our classic 3 Timer in a limited series of 33 pieces. Over the last few years we have noticed an increasing demand from our clients for the original models that we launched some 10 years ago.

Earlier this year, watch connoisseur and expert Kristian Haagen expressed an interest in owning the 3 Timer brown dial that sold out within a month when made in 2009, and has even compared to missing out on the watch all those years ago, to missing out on one’s first love.

Morten Linde thought it the perfect opportunity to offer Kristian his own customised edition 3 Timer and extend the offering to our loyal clients and followers around the world who share the same passion for our classic, retro timepieces.

Inspired by Kristian Haagen’s rugged yet sophisticated style and love for traditional and earthy colours, Morten created a beautiful olive brown dial and matching textile strap put on a classic steel 3 Timer case.

The 3 Timer is a GMT able to track three time zones and is the perfect sports watch for the modern and adventurous man, signalling functionality, great design and elegance.

The new 3 Timer with the earthy brown dial has as a twist with an accented tip for the GMT in red. The watch is mounted on a dark green textured calfskin strap that again reinforces the earthiness of the brown dial, giving this limited edition a new point of view.

With this 3 Timer relaunch a limited edition of 33 watches will be available worldwide, a few Linde Werdelin connoisseurs will again be able to secure ‘the watch that got away!’.

URWERK: Remembering «The UR-103»

With the UR-103 models, URWERK takes its ‘no limits’ approach to haute horlogerie ever further. Four orbiting and rotating satellites display the hours, with each satellite indicating the time in a both analogue and digital fashion as it arcs across the minute chapter. This sophisticated and ground-breaking complication is the result of years of research, development and testing.

The principle technical challenge was ensuring excellent isochronal performance of the satellites while minimizing friction and loss of energy. No simple task as, together with the supporting orbital cross, the satellite complication weighs in at 160 times heavier than traditional hands. URWERK’s co-founder and master watchmaker, Felix Baumgartner, took up the challenge and chose high-tech materials to minimize mass and thus maximize chronometric efficiency.

The four hour-satellites of the UR-103 are crafted in aluminium and are suspended under a grade-2 titanium orbital cross. The complication is mounted on a non-magnetic ARCAP P40 base plate providing superior strength and stability to traditional metals. The hour-satellites complete a full revolution under the orbital cross every four hours. As the satellite approaches the crown position, an internal Geneva cross causes it to undergo a 120 degree rotation on its own axis. This 120 degree rotation positions the next hour for its turn indicating the time at the front of the dial.

Over a one-year time span each orbital cross completes 2190 rotations and each satellite 730 revolutions on its own axis.

URWERK’s integration of a Control Board on the back of the 103 was a world first for a wristwatch. This ‘dashboard’ features a 43-hour Power Reserve indicator, a Chrono Meter with minutes and seconds facilitating accurate time-setting, and, in a nod to Abraham Louis Breguet, a Precision Adjustment screw making it possible for the owner to precisely regulate the timing of their UR-103 to match their own lifestyle. An exceptional complication merits an exceptional case and in the UR-103 series URWERK’s gifted designer and co-founder, Martin Frei, exceeded himself. Beginning with the geometrical base of a square and a circle, Frei designed a three- dimensional asymmetrical case the likes of which have never been seen before. Machining the UR-103’s complex form is a major engineering feat in itself. As Felix Baumgartner says, “URWERK’s innovative timepiece is the result of nearly three years of development and a further two more years of testing. . . the end result went beyond our dreams.”

Ulysse Nardin «Freak Cruiser»

URWERK: «UR-105 T-Rex»

The UR-105 T-Rex is a measuring instrument that has made its way through time and space. It reproduces on the wrist the most symbolic, universal and beautiful manifestation of the passing hours: the path of the sun from its rising to its setting. On the UR-105 T-Rex, a single hours pointer thus travels from east to west, creating an authentically universal yet minimalist depiction of time. Housed in a textured pebble-shaped case, the satellite hours of the UR-105 T-Rex wander along their stage-center 60-minute journey, protected only by a bronze suit of armor.

URWERK presents its UR-105 T-Rex, nicknamed after its atypical case that is crisscrossed by a raised, concentrically ribbed pattern evoking the scales of certain reptiles – a textured, bark-like coating that is soft to the touch. The colors of this breastplate will subtly evolve over the years. “We performed a number of different trials before confirming the exact shape of our bronze case. We wanted to achieve the perfect patina. Each model is treated as one-of-a-kind. It is decorated, beadblasted, micro-sandblasted, purified and then oxidized with a brush”, explains Felix Baumgartner, master- watchmaker and co-founder of URWERK.

The UR-105 T-Rex is an organic creation that cultivates a manifold relationship with time. It ticks off the passing hours while sensing the effects of time in the very fibers of its being. This is a watch that ages and is transformed. Martin Frei, chief designer and co-founder of URWERK, continues the narrative: “The UR-105 T-Rex represents the symbiosis of two dimensions, time and space. The means chosen to indicate the time is ancient, inherited from the Sumerians and dating back to the second millennium BC, when the shadow cast by the sun playing across their imposing monuments served as their clock. It is nonetheless truly contemporary. In this case, today, the position of our satellite on the dial plays the decisive role, by focusing our attention on the moment in hand. The past no longer exists and the future has yet to be created. All that counts is the time being displayed. What will we do with these 60 minutes?” Technically speaking, the UR-105 T-Rex is a satellite hours watch such as only URWERK makes them. Four satellites, each bearing three hour numerals, successively parade past the minute rail. This original and intuitive reading of time is facilitated by a cover made of PEEK (polyetheretherketone) that conceals the satellites not relevant to the time read-off. In keeping with the finest watchmaking traditions, this cover is adorned with a superb guilloché pattern.

This 105 model also embodies the year of research invested into URWERK’s years wandering hour satellites. The ingenuity of the mechanism lies in the invisible carousel fitted beneath the satellite structure, and responsible for the silent and smooth operation of the satellite hours. “In our previous models, our satellites were fitted on a Maltese cross and supported by an orbital cross at the top. We rethought this concept and made some refinements. The fruits of this can now be felt when setting the time. There is virtually no friction, no jerking, just the ballet of the satellites. It is the fluidity of the gears that quietly reveals our hard work,” explains continues Felix Baumgartner.

The back shows the turbines of the UR-105 T-Rex which regulate the winding of the watch. They are adjusted by means of a lever. In the “FULL” position, even the slightest movement is leveraged to help wind up the mainspring. The UR-105 T-Rex is thus in automatic winding mode and its winding is optimized by the effect of its turbines. In “STOP” mode, the winding system is disabled and the UR- 105 can thus be hand-wound if required via the crown. A third intermediate “RED” (for REDUCED) moderates the winding so as to avoid excessive tension on the mainspring.
