Bouland Motors creates a fully functioning 1:3 scale model engine from the well-known Cosworth DFV 3.0 Formula 1 V8. The scale model has a capacity of 76cc and it’s made with over 1200 parts. This wonderful sounding high revving little V8 can rev up to 10,000 RPM producing about 7 bhp.
With 155 GP victories between 1967 and 1983, the Cosworth DFV is the most legendary F1 engine ever built. Bouland Motors is officially licensed by Cosworth to create this piece of mechanical art. All components of the engine are made in The Netherlands utilizing the best companies the country has to offer. “Top quality” was the utmost priority during the entire development stage. All parts went through rigorous testing, not only for performance but also for aesthetics. For example, the engine has titanium valves, which can’t even be seen from the outside.
For the Skully Art collection, a special starting grid was created with a Skully rehoboam bottle decorated as the Lotus-Ford that was driven to victory by Jim Clark in the 1967 grand prix at Zandvoort. This was the race in which the Cosworth DFV was introduced to the world, and after that it went on to become the most successful Grand-Prix engine of all time.
Cosworth DFV 3.0 Formula 1 V8
With 155 GP victories between 1967 and 1983, the most legendary F1 engine ever built. The first Cosworth DFV F1 engine was unveiled in April 1967, and won the first race in which it competed: the Dutch Grand Prix on the 4th of June 1967. The engine was developed and designed by Keith Duclkorth who founded Cosworth together with Mike Costin in 1958.
The engine went on to become the most successful Grand Prix engine of all time. When the Ford-Cosworth DFV engine made its winning debut at Zandvoort in 1967, it revolutionized the sport by introducing a completely new concept to the Grand Prix world. For the first time, the idea of the engine forming a structural part of a Formula One car was introduced, an idea that remains fundamental to Formula One even today.
The Ford-Cosworth DFV engine and its derivatives went on to win 155 Grands Prix. It dominated F1 racing for a long time, the final win came as late as 1983, when Keke Rosberg claimed victory in the Monaco Grand Prix, just before Formula One entered the turbo era in the mid 1980’s. When it was first developed in 1967, the engine was a 2.993cc V8 with a bore of 85.67mm and 64.897 mm stroke, producing over 400 bhp @ 9,000 R.P.M. By the end of its career, the engine reached 510 bhp@ 11,200 RPM.
This impressive, fully-functioning scale model engine with a capacity of 76cc is made from more than 1200 parts and is a wonderful sounding, high revving, little V8 that can rev up to 10,000 RPM while producing roughly 7bhp. All components of the engine are made in The Netherlands utilizing the best companies the country has to offer. “Top quality” was the utmost priority during the entire development stage. All parts went through rigorous testing, not only for performance but also for aesthetics. For example, the engine has titanium valves, which can’t even be seen from the outside. Before delivery, each engine is tested for one hour to ensure proper break-in of the piston rings and liners. During this period, each carburetor is also fully adjusted for optimal performance. The dimensions of the engine, including gearbox and exhaust, are: Length 39cm, Height 19cm and 24cm Width. The set includes a starter kit, which consists of a little fuel tank, a tank for coolant and a 12V power source.
